Security personnel rescued over 200 persons who were marooned in parts of west Kemeng district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. They had been cut off in the mountain highways following incessant rains and landslides. One girl was killed and three persons wounded in a landslide near the State capital Itanagar, official reports said on Tuesday.
There has been a slight improvement in the flood situation in the five districts of Assam. However, displaced villagers staying in relief camps are yet to return home. The district administration has imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC along the highway from Bokahat to Jakharbandh near the Kaziranga National Park. This has been done to protect animals which may be driven out of the park by the flood waters.
The flood situation in Manipur and Mizoram has improved considerably, though the sky is still overcast. Twelve persons lost their lives in Mizoram and over 800 houses were destroyed.
Meanwhile, in West Bengal, heavy rainfall and lightning have claimed at least nine lives. Of the nine who died since Monday evening, eight were struck by lightning and one drowned in a pond inundated by heavy showers, official sources said. An upper trough across Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal is causing heavy rains in Bankura, East and West Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, South and North 24 Parganas and Murshidabad districts, regional Met Director G.K.Das said.
24x7 relief camps
A person was washed away and 2,000 people were rendered homeless in floods in Tripura following incessant rains since Sunday, officials said Tuesday. A 75-year-old woman was washed away on Monday when she slipped into the Bijoy river at Routkhala village in Sipahijala district, about 20 km from here. Her body was yet to be found, the officials said.
District Magistrate of West Tripura Milin Ramteke said 598 relief camps were opened on Monday in the district and adjacent Sipahijala to provide shelter to 2,000 people who had been displaced due to the floods.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar reviewed the flood situation on Monday with his senior colleagues and top government officials, and asked the administration to open relief camps in the affected areas. The camps would be kept open round the clock, the officials said

Director of Meteorological Department Dilip Saha said 695 mm rainfall had been recorded so far this month at the airport here against a normal of 421 mm.
