Health Minister K.K. Shylaja

There have been charges of Health Department data on diseases being faulty.

The number of diseases in the official figures released by district medical offices has never really matched the actual number of people seeking treatment at hospitals.

When the matter was brought to the attention of Health Minister K.K. Shylaja at the press conference on Sunday, she said private hospitals were not forthcoming when it came to sharing information about diseases.

Reporting of cases

It is learnt that while some major private hospitals have a system of daily reporting, smaller hospitals in cities, suburbs, and peripheral areas continue to lag in reporting diseases to the DMO.

Meanwhile, a medical expert alleged that there were even instances of e-mails from private hospitals not being opened at all.
