A four-foot-high bronze statue of poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, complete with choicest couplets from his celebrated work Thirukkural, was unveiled by Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao in the presence of dignitaries at the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday.
The Governor, who has taken a keen interest in installing the statues of personalities who have contributed to the richness of the Tamil language, informed that a statue of Tamil poet Avvaiyar would soon be unveiled at the campus.
“The children can touch the plaque and hear the recital of Athichudi,” the Governor said at a gathering of officials, educationalists and students. The Thiruvalluvar statue, designed by Kishore Nagappa Sthapathy, is 4-feet-high, 3.5-feet-wide and installed on a pedestal of 4.5 feet in height and 4 feet in width.
