Militant leader turned politician Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl said his meeting with the chief of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was part of initiatives to pursue extremists to shun violence and return to a peaceful path. Reacting to allegations levelled by CPI-M State secretary Bijan Dhar and the party’s central committee member Gautam Das on his ‘secret meeting with NLFT President Subir Debbarma in Guwahati on May 1’, he said they [the ruling party leaders] are engaged in negative politics while undermining a positive approach to finally end insurgency in the state.

“I met NLFT leader to tell him to restrain from violent activities in Tripura and return to normal life,” Mr. Hrangkhawl told The Hindu on Monday.
