Mohammad Amir hurled a big shout at Azhar Ali as he dropped Virat Kohli at slips. Amir knew how big this wicket was. Pakistan knew the importance of Indian captain’s wicket. The Oval was stunned and only Indian fans were cheering as they hoped for a big innings from their captain in chase of 339.
It was not to be. Amir produced another beautiful delivery to which Kohli closed the face of his bat early. A big leading edge went to backward point. The Oval erupted as Pakistan had India 6 for 2. Amir had sent Rohit Sharma and Kohli back in the hut.
Amir had to be left out of the line-up for semi-final against England due to a strain. But, in his comeback to the team, the pacer showed his class, once again.
One example of his great strength to surprise the batsman was the Rohit wicket. First ball of the Indian chase and he moved it away from Rohit. The second one swung even more but the left-arm pacer brought the third one back into Rohit with a big angle.
Rohit had already moved forward to and was stuck on the pads. Umpire had no doubt in his mind that it was going to hit the stumps. The early breakthrough set the stage for Pakistan which eventually turned out to be a big one.
It was Amir’s brilliance to pick three early wickets for Pakistan. Shikhar Dhawan was his third wicket. He broke India’s back and never allowed them to get off to a good start which was one of the important points for for India in this tournament.
He finished with three wickets for just 16 runs from six overs. Two of his overs were maiden. Before this match, Amir had two wickets from three games. He saved his best for the last and helped Pakistan win their first Champions Trophy title.
