The State Government should introduce a special legislation to protect 50% reservation to government doctors for admission to postgraduate medical courses.
A resolution was passed at an executive committee meeting of the Service Doctors and Postgraduates Association here on Sunday.
The members said that cancellation of reservation would create shortage of specialists in government hospitals in the State in the long run. At present, all government hospitals, including taluk hospitals, have a sufficient number of specialists. Moreover, the State is leading in the country in health sector.
The MCI rules removed reservation of seats in PG courses for government doctors. Ultimately, the public would suffer. So the government should restore and protect reservation in PG courses. A special Act alone would be a viable solution to the issue, the resolution added.
In another resolution, it appealed to the government to establish an AIIMS hospital in any part of the State to enable people to get advanced medical care.
Withdrawal of the new pension scheme and leave to women doctors and women staff in health sector on a par with Central government employees were their other demands.
