HC collegium has to send the recommendation to Centre: Chaudhary

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Electronics and Information Technology P.P. Chaudhary has said that six new judges will soon be appointed to the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad.

Speaking to reporters here, he, however, said the recommendation had to be sent by the High Court collegium to the Central Government and to the Supreme Court collegium for the process to be completed.

He said there would still be a lot of vacancies but the NDA Government’s record had been pretty good in filling vacancies to higher judiciary. The maximum appointments in High Courts and the Supreme Court were during the last three years compared to any previous regime.

Mr. Chaudhary said the Central Government was ready to grant funds for construction of High Court for Andhra Pradesh in that state as per court orders. He also made it clear that the Government recognised the need for a separate High Court for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as per the Bifurcation Act.

‘Expedite the process’

Later, Telangana Minister for Law A. Indrakaran Reddy met the Union Minister and demanded that he expedite the process of bifurcating the High Court at the earliest.
