Blames him for protests, campaigns against Central schemes

In a rare personal attack on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Union Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan said on Friday that the implementation of Central government schemes were getting affected by his indecisiveness.

Mr. Radhakrishnan, who handles the Road Transport, Highways and Shipping portfolios, said the Chief Minister had failed to take bold steps to implement the Central government schemes.

Interacting with journalists in Nagapattinam after inaugurating an event to mark the completion of three years of the Modi government, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, in the past, anti-nuclear activists did not want Kudankulam. Jayalalithaa had ensured that all the protests were wound up in a month. “Kudankulam came and today we get our electricity from there. We need a Chief Minister for the bold decisions. Today in Tamil Nadu, we have no such individual,” he said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the State government’s indecisiveness was leading to smaller organisations successfully carrying out protest campaigns against government schemes.

‘Jaya was bold’

“This is not only about Jayalalithaa. Kalaignar was a bold CM. Kamaraj, Anna too were. Whether they did the right thing or not, that’s a different matter,” he said.

On Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the Chief Minister should take decisive action against those obstructing government projects.
