Drunk driving: Four pedestrians injured

Call taxi rams CJ’s bungalow wall

A call taxi driver, reportedly drunk, drove a Tavera car in a rash manner and hit four pedestrians and rammed the compound wall of Chief Justice of Madras High Court Indira Banerjee’s bungalow on Greenways Road.

The accident occurred at 1.45 a.m. on Friday when Iyappan was driving towards Adyar from Kodambakkam.

He was accompanied by his relative Velayutham, 38.

Iyappan lost control of the car and ran over the platform on left side where four persons were walking and rammed the compound wall, which is eight feet high.

In the impact, a portion of the wall collapsed. Police personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out the occupants from the car.

Injured sent to hospital

The injured were sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment.

Police sources said the injured were identified as Benjamin, Amit, Gandhi and Robin from Nepal.

City Police Commissioner A.K.Viswanathan inspected the spot. Iyappan and Velayutham were arrested.
