Police Sub-Inspector P. Prabahakar Reddy made sexual advances towards beautician A. Sirisha in his official quarter at Kukunoorpally of Siddipet and shot himself dead a day after her suicide in Hyderabad, apparently worried of his role coming out in the probe, the investigators said on Friday.
Vallabhaneni Rajeev, a wedding photographer with whom Sirisha was working and the SI's long-time friend B. Sravan of Nalgonda were arrested on charge of driving her to suicide. “Rajeev was having physical relationship with Sirisha but fell in love with another woman Tejaswi who objected to their intimacy,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said.
Sirisha sought the help of her friend B. Sravan as Tejaswi began sending abusive messages to her. She, Rajeev and Sravan -at the latter's instance- went to the SI's quarter in Kukunoorpally at 11.30 p.m. on Monday.
“All four started consuming liquor. When the men came out of the quarter for puff break, Sirisha too tried to come out but the SI told her that he would be in trouble if the police sentry noticed her presence,” Mr. Reddy explained. Around 1.50 a.m. after gulping some pegs, the SI suggested to Rajeev and Sravan to spend sometime at nearby brothels.
Apparently on hearing the conversation, the woman shared her location through WhatsApp to her husband at 1.58 a.m., the investigators said. “She even sent several messages to Rajeev through WhatsApp stating 'Rajeev don't leave, Be with me,” Mr. Reddy narrated.
While smoking outside, Rajeev and Sravan heard shouts of Sirisha who was in the quarter with the SI. They rushed inside only to see frightened Sirisha in a corner and the SI moving close to her, according to the investigators.
As Sirisha continued to scream and cry, Rajeev lost his cool and slapped her. They started for Hyderabad around 2.30 a.m. The woman continued to shout about her safety and even tried to jump out of the running car when Rajeev again beat up her.
After reaching the studio, she hanged herself to death while Rajeev was parking the car. On learning about her death, the worried SI rang up his batch-mate Harinder working in Banjara Hills police station thrice on Tuesday.
“The SI called Harinder fourth time on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and on being told that police were verifying reports about the woman partying at his quarter, he hung up abruptly,” the Commissioner said. An hour later, the SI shot himself dead with his service pistol.
