2,500 police personnel deployed

Kochi has come under a blanket of heavy security cover as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some of his Cabinet colleagues and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and others are scheduled to reach Kochi on Saturday morning to attend the inaugural run of the Koch metro.

The Kochi police have deployed police personnel on almost all buildings located on the route to be taken by the Prime Minister. Mr. Modi will reach the city from the Naval airport to inaugurate the metro project.

Fencing has been created on the flanks of the road from the airport to the city areas to make the going smooth for the Prime Minister’s convoy.

A rehearsal of the convoy movement involving 21 vehicles was conducted on Friday. The rehearsal, which began at the Naval Base, concluded at Palarivattom.

Senior police officials led by T. P. Senkumar, Director General of Police, reviewed the security arrangements at a meeting held at the Ernakulam Town Hall on Friday.

Senior functionaries from the Special Protection Group, including AIGs Anish Sirohi, Rajesh Kumar and T.K. Gautham, supervised the security measures. Around 2,500 police personnel have been deployed for the protection of the VIPs, in addition to the SPG officials who have arrived in the city.

Commandos of the Special Protection Group will be in charge of the security arrangements at the venues where the Prime Minister will arrive.
