Panaji: Delegates at the Hindu convention said on Thursday that there was a plot to portray the Vedas in a bad light through the the National Council for Educational Research (NCERT).
Speaking on ‘Futility of Democracy’, Niraj Atri, president of the National Centre for Historical Research and Comparative Study in Chandigarh, said, “Totally false information such as existence of tradition of slavery in Vedas is being passed on to students through the medium of this Central Government level curriculum.”
Mr. Atri saw this as a plot to ‘tarnish’ the Vedas. The convention also demanded that Hindu organisations in India take a lead for getting justice for Hindus in Sri Lanka. “Due to persistent conflict since last 30 years in Sri Lanka, the population of Hindus is reducing. From 30% it is now 15%, that is, 20 lakhs. Hindus are constantly pressured to get converted,” said Maravanpulavu Sachithananthan, a delegate from Sri Lanka.
