‘Repair the defunct signals’

In the absence of a zebra-crossing and a pedestrian signal, people dart across the stretch

As the traffic signals at the triangular intersection, connecting Ayyanchery Main Road, Grand Southern Trunk Road and service lanes, are defunct, residents of Kilambakkam and Urapakkam find it difficult to cross the intersection.

The signals, which were installed two years ago, have not been functioning till now, forcing motorists and pedestrians to send frequent representations to the Kancheepuram police to have them repaired.

In the absence of a zebra-crossing and a pedestrian signal, pedestrians dart across the stretch and this often results in utter chaos.

The GST Road, near Ayyanchery Main Road, witnesses a heavy flow of traffic, including heavy vehicles such as container trucks, fuel tankers and trailer vehicles, throughout the day. Some of these vehicles come at a high speed.

In addition to this, some motorists drive in the wrong direction to enter the service lanes towards Guduvanchery and near Urapakkam Railway Station Road, much to the dismay of other motorists.

Prabhakaran says, “Many accidents have taken place at the intersection.”
