JAMMU, June 16: Civic Safai Karamchari Union (CSKU), Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today announced suspension of their ongoing strike after the assurance of the Commissioner/ Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department.
Addressing a press conference, Rinku Gill, president of the union, said that recently they met Commissioner/Secretary to Government Housing and Urban Development Department and requested him to concede the genuine demands of JMC Employees’ Union on the same analogy as that of Kashmir Municipal Corporation.
Gill said that the Commissioner agreed in toto in presence of JMC Commissioner, that their demands will be looked into and conceded. He said that in view of assurance given by the Commissioner, the union has decided to stop the ongoing strike but if their demands were not met, they will continue their strike from July 6.
He said that in the year 2008, all the local bodies were reorganized but Municipal Corporation was organized. He said when J&K is one state then why there is disparity with Jammu Municipal Corporation and its workers.
Gill emphasized for immediate scrapping of NGO system, regularization of 33 drivers and conductors working in the department for last 12 years on contractual basis, re-organization of JMC, immediate release and disbursement of arrears to workers confirmed in 2005 and 2010 and providing 2 and half day’s salary to the workers along with their salary under norms.
Ranjit Singh, Ashwani, Gulzar Masih, Camres David, Vijay Kumar and many others were present on the occasion.
