Bombay High Court upheld the HUL plea against the ad, which the FMCG major termed “misleading”
The Bombay High Court has ordered Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd to cease airing TV advertisements of its Amul ice-cream brand saying it was disparaging towards rival HUL.
Amul, which makes dairy-based ice-creams, has been running television commercials since March 4 telling consumers that its products were better than frozen desserts as the latter contained vanaspati oil.
HUL, a leading manufacturer of frozen-dessert ice-creams under its Kwality Walls brand, termed the ad “misleading”, and filed a case in the Bombay High Court on March 21, seeking the commercial’s removal.
An HUL statement released on Friday said the court found the advertisement disparaging of the frozen desserts category and had declined Amul’s request to grant any stay on the order. A copy of the Court order is awaited, it added.
Amul said it was awaiting the court order and would “take suitable action”, including challenging “the order at a higher level”.
