An industry and commerce body of the North East today urged the Centre to formulate a focused and favourable industrial policy for the region.

The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) sought the intervention of Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju in finalising the industrial policy, keeping in view the specific needs of the region, a statement said today.

FINER president Pabitra Buragohain called on Rijiju in and submitted a representation to him.

"The issue of how the central excise duty refund, currently eligible for Industries set up pursuant to the NEIPP (North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy) would continue under the regime is still not clear as there is no mechanism for it," Buragohain was quoted in a statement.

He also called for 100 per cent excise duty refund under and urged Rijiju to look into the matter.

"Priority should be given to the formulation of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy that favours the region and contributes to economic development," Buragohain said.

FINER had submitted a similar representation to DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh yesterday.
