With reference to the article ‘Info panel upholds right to inspect court registers’ published in these columns on June 13, 2017, the Tamil Nadu Information Commission has clarified that the right to inspect or get copies is subject to the provisions of Madras High Court Right to Information (Regulation of Fee and Cost) Rules.
Keeping that in mind, the Commission had stated in the order that if the Public Information Officer was convinced that there are grounds not to permit perusal as directed, he should inform the Commission before June 15, 2017 for a final decision.
