Checking Facebook every now and then may make you sad and unhealthy

Do you check your Facebook profile a lot in the day? Well this may make you more sad and unhealthy than who use it sporadically, according to a new study.

For the study, researchers from Yale University and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), studied the pattern of Facebook use and 5,208 participants' mental health between the years 2013 and 2015.

According to the findings, increased use of Facebook was closely linked to "compromised social, physical and psychological health", Metro.co.uk reported on Sunday.

Mental health issues were reported if users updated their profiles or liked posts more than average.

The study was led by UCSD's Assistant Professor of Public Health Holly Shakya and Yale's Nicholas Christakis, who is Director of the University's Human Nature Lab.
