‘Haritham Sahakaranam’ launched

In support of the State government’s ‘Haritha Keralam Mission’, the Department of Cooperation on Monday launched its ‘Haritham Sahakaranam’ initiative with an aim to plant five lakh saplings across the State. All the 5,000 cooperative societies affiliated to the department would work for achieving the target within June 20.

Inaugurating the scheme, Minister for Cooperation and Tourism Kadakampally Surendran said the cooperative sector would be part of a massive social movement for the conservation of nature and environment. “It will also be a boost to the State government’s plan to plant one crore saplings under the Haritha Keralam Mission,” he added.

The Minister said the Cooperation Department would come up with a slew of projects shortly for the infrastructure development of government schools in the State.

“The best performing primary cooperative societies in Kerala will sponsor at least one smart classroom for the State. We are expecting the cooperation of at least 1,000 best performing cooperative societies to achieve the target,” he added.

A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, chaired the inaugural event.
