With over 60 different species recorded so far, a butterfly park spread over three acres at the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in south Delhi was dedicated to the public by the Delhi government on Monday to mark World Environment Day.

‘Get involved’

The park, which has 60 varieties of native trees, 25 varieties of host plants and 30 varieties of nectar plants, has been home to 64 species of butterflies, as per the Environment and Forest Department.

Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai, Environment Minister Imran Hussain and students attended the event.

Referring to the theme of this year’s World Environment Day: ‘Connecting People to Nature’, Mr. Hussain said that children and their parents should be involved in planting trees.

Mr. Rai said that children should engage in environment-friendly activities, such as planting saplings, during their summer vacations.

A book titled ‘Butterflies of Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary - A Field Guide’, which was compiled by the Conservation Education Centre and the Forest Department, was also released on the occasion.
