Programmes held on the occasion of World Environment Day

Led by Mayor Akula Sujatha, the staff and elected members of the Municipal Corporation of Nizamabad took a rally on the occasion of World Environment Day, from Gandhi crossroads to the municipal building, here on Monday.

Commissioner Nageswar Rao, staff of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), and artistes, among others, participated in the rally raising slogans on the importance of protection of environment in the wake of global warming.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sujatha said that in the coming days waste management would be effectively dealt with and green and blue dust bins would be distributed free of cost. Garbage collectors would come to every household to pick up trash.

They would dump the rubbish at street points from where it would be transported to dump yards, she said, advising residents not to fling their trash everywhere. Residents should cooperate with municipal staff to keep the city clean, she added.

The Mayor also advised residents not to throw trash in drains and also contribute to the Haritha Haram programme.

In Peddapalli: NTPC Ramagunam celebrated World Environment Day in the township on Monday.

NTPC executive director D.K. Dubey and employees and their family participated in a walkathon. A mass tree plantation drive was also carried out in the town. Participants took oath to protect the environment.
