Mahatma Gandhi University has decided to scrap the expert revaluation process to cut down on the inordinate delay in publication of results of papers for which students had applied for revaluation.
The varsity now follows a three-tier revaluation process in which a paper is evaluated again, if there is a 10% increase in marks scored in the examination concerned. An expert is asked to value the paper, if the difference remains even after the second round of valuation.
“From now onwards, the Syndicate has decided to do away with revaluation by an expert as it delays the entire process of publication of results. The experts have to come to the campus to evaluate the answer sheets. We have noted that the process is slowing up the revaluation process,” said sources close to the development.
The varsity will now take the average of the increase in marks scored in the first and second rounds of revaluation. A student getting an increase of 12 marks in the first revaluation and eight in the second round will now get a final increase of 10 marks by taking the average of the two scores.
Officials pointed out that efforts would be made to ensure that the results of revaluation were published within two months of submitting the applications. The varsity had received brickbats for the delay in the publication of answer sheets for which the students had applied for revaluation.
A postgraduate student of English Langauge and Literature at a college here recalled that she was shocked to receive an increase of 15 marks for a paper in the first semester of an undergraduate course three years back. The candidate could not reap the advantage of the increase in marks as she had already entered the second semester of her postgraduate course when the results of the revaluation of a paper in the first semester of the undergraduate programme were declared.
