A Chinese commentator has urged the Western media to end its "double standards" over terrorism.
"We hope that Western media outlets will abandon their double standards," said a commentary in the state-run Global Times.
"Terrorism is an enemy of all humankind and the international community must unite in face of increasingly rampant lone wolf attacks."
Writer Liu Jianxi said ideology seemed to be the only criterion for terrorism as far as Western media was concerned.
"Those attacking the West are terrorists while atrocities against socialist countries come from revolt by minority groups that deserve sympathy.
"The West's double standards on terrorism disregards the human rights of innocent Chinese victims and have tremendously harmed the feelings of Chinese people.
"More seriously, such double standards are, in essence, acquiescence of terrorism and have boosted the morale of terrorists."
Liu warned that Western double standards would eventually backfire.
The commentator pointed out how in 2014, when terrorists randomly stabbed people at China's Kunming railway station leaving 29 dead, the Western media was reluctant to dub the attackers terrorists, "putting quotation marks around the term".
"How would the West react if Chinese media put quotation marks on London terrorists and attributed the recent terrorist attacks to Western ethnic policies?"
The Chinese commentary followed Saturday's London terror attack which left seven people dead before police shot dead all three attackers.
