Final decision will be taken at a UDF meeting on June 9

The opposition UDF will join hands with the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council ín opposing the new abkari policy of the LDF government, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said that a final decision on the issue would be taken at a meeting of the UDF scheduled for June 9.

He said the UDF would launch strong agitation against the government’s new policy which was aimed at opening all the bars which were closed by the UDF government. He alleged that the LDF had entered into an unholy nexus with the abkari lobby for this purpose even before the last Assembly elections.

According to the Opposition leader, the LDF government could not launch any new projects during the past one year when it was in power. However, they were trying to take the credit for the major developmental works the UDF government had commenced such as the Kochi Metro, Kannur Airport, and Vizhinjam Port through heavy advertisements.

Reacting to a question, he said the Vizhinjam Port project was a unanimous decision of the UDF and the coalition was ready to face any investigation regarding the project.

He said he stood with the Congress leaders of Kottayam in the relationship with Kerala Congress (M). To another question he said the people of Kerala could not be hoodwinked by BJP president Amit Shah.
