Extending solidarity with the doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA), who have given a call to organise ‘Chalo Delhi’, the IMA Karimnagar chapter has decided to observe pen-down strike from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 6 in the district.
As part of the agitation, the doctors would abstain from treating patients from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Besides, they would also take out a rally from IMA hall to the Collectorate and stage a dharna demanding solution to a charter of demands.
Disclosing this to newsmen here on Sunday, IMA district president Mohd Aleem called upon the patients to cooperate with the doctors in their protest on June 6. He also said the two medical colleges – Chalmeda Ananda Rao Institute of Medical Sciences and Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences – would also observe bandh on the day.
“We want the government to protect doctors from attacks by the kin of patients. We also want one drug, one company and one price system,” said Mr. Mohd Aleem.
Charter of demands
The IMA’s charter of demands also includes uniform MBBS final exams for all, avoid merging of Ayush with modern allopathy medicine and allocation of five % GDP for universal healthcare. IMA senior leader T.K.K. Naidu and K.S. Sagar Rao were also present.
