The condition of Amir Saab, the patient who had to be dragged on the floor by his wife from the scanning room to the ward after being denied a wheelchair at McGann Hospital here, was stable on Monday.
The incident took place on May 31 at the government hospital attached to the Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences. The patient had suffered a posterior cerebral artery infarction that resulted in cerebral ischemia. His health condition worsened and he was admitted to a private hospital in the city. He had earlier suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension and heart-related problems.
On Monday, he was subjected to MRI and doppler ultrasound tests. The doctors treating him at the private hospital said the extent of damage the brain tissues suffered because of cerebral infarction has been assessed. The hypertension as well as the senility might have triggered the cerebral infarction. Mr. Saab’s blood-sugar level has returned to normal and he is responding for the treatment, sources said.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner K. Channabasappa and district surgeon Raghunandan R. visited the hospital on Monday and collected information on Mr. Saab’s condition.
