Legislature pays tribute to Gandhian Srinivasaiah, Parvathamma, Vimala Gowda

Both the houses of the Karnataka Legislature, on Monday, paid rich tributes to 11 prominent personalities, who died recently, including Gandhian H. Srinivasaiah, film producer Parvathamma Rajkumar and MLC Vimala Gowda.

Obituary references in this regard were moved by Presiding Officer K. B. Koliwad and D.H. Shankaramurthy.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah described Srinivasaiah as a simple person committed to Gandhian ideology. He was an engineer who worked in Germany for some time, but later returned to India after getting drwan to Gandhian ideology, he pointed out.

Janata Dal (S) leader Y.S.V. Datta recalled that the Gandhian had helped the state by filing a Public Interest Litigation petition with respect to the Cauvery Tribunal's report.

Showering praises on Parvathamma, Mr. Siddaramaiah said she was the backbone of success of her husband, thespian Rajkumar.

Tributes were also paid several other personalities, including veteran journalists Garudanagiri Nagaraj and H.L. Keshavamurthy.

In the council, Leader of the house G. Parameshwara and Leader of the Opposition K.S. Eshwarappa paid tributes to the departed souls.

A minute's silence was observed in both the houses. The Legislative Council was adjourned for the day.
