Inauguration of Mazhakkoythulsavam

The State-level inauguration of ‘Mazhakkoythulsavam’, celebrating World Environment Day, will be held at Government Higher Secondary School, Medical College campus, in Kozhikode on Monday. Education Minister C. Ravindranath will be the chief guest on the occasion while MLA A. Pradeep Kumar will preside over.

Mr. Pradeep Kumar, who is also chairman of the organising committee, told reporters here on Saturday that ‘Mazhakkoythulsavam’ was an attempt to connect school campuses in the State with nature and to ensure that nature becomes a textbook for children.

The programme aims at encouraging students to build rainwater pits in school as well as in houses in order to harvest rainwater. Mini biodiversity parks will be set up in each school by planting saplings of various trees on the campus.

District panchayat president Babu Parassery will inaugurate the construction of rainwater pits at the function to be held at 9.30 a.m. while Director of Public Instruction K.V. Mohankumar will release the souvenir Venal Pacha. Director (in-charge) of Higher Secondary P.P. Prakashan will inaugurate the distribution of saplings. Environmentalists A. Achuthan and T. Shobheendran will be honoured.
