A farmer and his son died after being electrocuted in their water-filled field in Patla town of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday.

Satyvir Singh, 65, and his son Anil Singh, 40, were at their farm when the incident occurred, police said.

When Anil entered the water-filled farmland, he was trapped in the electricity current flowing in the water. When his father noticed Anil being trapped, he tried to pull him, but also got trapped in the electric current, and both died on the spot.

The neighbouring farmers noticed them and informed the police. The police informed the Power Corporation officials, who disconnected the power supply.

Local MLA Manju Siwach, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Atul Kumar and Tehsildar Vijay Shankar Mishra rushed to the spot and asked the police to register a criminal complaint against the Power Corporation officials responsible for power supply in this particular line.

During investigation, it was found that the earthing power cable had got snapped from the pole and got grounded in the agriculture field.

"We have registered the complaint. The arrest is yet to be made," said the Inspector of Modinagar.

The MLA demanded that the family should be given compensation.

The district administration has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation each to the kin of the two dead.
