Sri Lanka were completely out of their depth as South Africa produced a dominant performance with the ball.
At the end of the match, South Africa didn’t face much of a task in getting the better of Sri Lanka. The pitch report that came from the middle earlier was the 280 would be a good total. South Africa made 299 on the back of a century from the brilliant Hashim Amla. Sri Lanka then took the field and were looking out of their depth right from the start. But Niroshan Dickwella and Sri Lanka stand-in captain Upul Tharanga gave them a solid start, making an opening partnership of 69 runs. Dickwella was the first to go and he was followed Kushal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal. Tharanga got to a half century but he was soon dismissed by Imran Tahir. Tahir reigned supreme in the second half of the match, conceding 27 runs in the 8.3 overs he bowled and picking four wickets.

TOSS: Sri Lanka had won the toss and have opted to field first against South Africa. There was no Angelo Mathews and Tharanga was leading the side. The match also marked Lasith Malinga’s return to the Sri Lankan side in ODI’s after nearly two years. For the Proteas, Imran Tahir and David Miller were deemed fit to play after recovering from respective injuries
