A PhD scholar of IIT-Madras campus was thrashed allegedly by right-wing students on Tuesday for participating in the beef fest organised to protest the new cattle trade rules on Sunday.
The student was taken to a hospital and treated for eye injuries.
Reportedly, at the fest, around 80 students discussed the Centre’s decision of banning cattle trade for purpose of slaughter.

Slaughter of cow and calf is banned in Tamil Nadu, however, there is no bar on the slaughter of buffaloes, ox or bull.
Interestingly, news of the attack on the student, Sooraj R, came around the same time when Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday stayed for four weeks, the Centre's decision on cattle trade ban for slaughter.
