Four cardiac procedures conducted at the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research were telecast live to delegates of the Asia Pacific Cardiac and Structural Heart Disease Symposium-2017 in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday.
Dr C N Manjunath, director, Dr K H Srinivas, Dr Anand P Subramanian and Dr B C Srinivas conducted the cardiac procedures – balloon mitral valvuloplasty and device closure of congenital heart defects (heart hole).
Two patients were suffering from rheumatic heart disease and a narrowed mitral valve called mitral stenosis. The balloon mitral valvuloplasty was conducted on the two patients with excellent results.
Procedures with children
Other two cases were those of children aged seven years and nine years. They were diagnosed with a congenital heart disease in the form of heart holes.
They were suffering from recurrent chest infection, fever and growth retardation. For these children, the heart holes were closed by a non-surgical method using umbrella devices.
Delegates and cardiologists in Auckland interacted with the hospital team and appreciated the expertise.
