The GST Council will tomorrow finalise taxes to be levied on six commodities, including gold, textiles and biscuits, as the Centre and states gear up to roll out the new indirect tax regime from July 1.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is celebrating the 93rd birthday of its leader M. Karunanidhi on June 3 in a big way in Chennai. The function will also mark DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s 60 years of service in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and will be yet another occasion for leaders of parties opposed to the BJP to come together on one platform. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Rashtriya Janta Dal leader Lalu Prasad and Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien are scheduled to attend the celebrations.
The BSE will conduct a mock trading session on Saturday. Besides equity, the BSE would conduct mock trading in equity derivatives and currency derivatives segments.

Defending champions India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening cricket match of this year’s ICC Champions Trophy. The two countries were today placed in the same group for the event that got underway on June 1 in England. After just making the cut, Pakistan will be under pressure, in Birmingham on June 4.
