Novak Djokovic advanced after a five-set battle (Source: Reuters)
Defending champion Novak Djokovic survived a five-set battle against Diego Schwartzman by overcoming a two set deficit to beat he French 5-7 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-1 and move into the last 16. Rafael Nadal also advanced with a 6-0 6-1 6-0 win over Nikoloz Basilashvili. In the women’s singles Garbine Muguruza advanced alongwith Venus Williams and Kristina Mladenovic. For India, Leander Paes crashed out after losing mixed doubles match while Sania Mirza won her match with Ivan Dodig. Rohan Bopanna also won in men’s doubles while unseeded pair of Purav Raja-Divij Sharan.

2200 hrs IST: Elise Mertens was knocked out by Venus Williams after the American won 6-3 6-1. Albert Ramos-Vinolas took out local boy Lucas Pouille 6-2 3-6 5-7 6-2 6-1
2154 hrs IST: Two match points for Djokovic and he closes it out with a winner on serve. He went two sets to one down but gets the job done in the end. Through to the round of 16. Wins 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Into the fourth round here for eighth year in a row
2140 hrs IST: Djokovic breaks the Argentine and leads 2-1. But his groundstrokes are way off mark today. And yet he finds the sidelines to keep himself going. Holds serve and makes it 3-1
