Market registered modest gains in the last trading session of the week. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex rose 103.51 points or 0.33% at 31,241.10, as per the provisional closing data. The Nifty 50 index advanced 34.95 points or 0.36% at 9,651.05, as per the provisional closing data.
Both the Sensex, and the Nifty, hit record high in mid-morning trade. The market sentiment was boosted by hopes of good southwest monsoon rains. Strong overseas cues also lifted investors' spirit.
The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index provisionally rose 0.72%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index provisionally advanced 0.5%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On the BSE, 1,449 shares rose and 1,237 shares declined. A total of 164 shares were unchanged.
Realty stocks were mixed. Godrej Properties (up 6.28%), Oberoi Realty (up 4.81%), Unitech (up 1.95%) and Sobha (up 1.36%) edged higher. HDIL (down 1.1%), Prestige Estates Projects (down 0.99%), DLF (down 0.74%), Indiabulls Real Estate (down 0.57%) and D B Realty (down 0.48%) edged lower.
