In all, 15 drought-hit mandals of the district will get special assistance from the Centre, according to K. Narayana Reddy, head of the Central team that is on a visit to the district.
‘Famine-like situation’
Joint Collector K.V.N. Chakradharbabu and senior officials of various departments explained the famine-like situation prevalent in several mandals, including Tekkali, Nandigama, and Kotabommali. They also told the team about acute shortage of rainfall and poor yield. DWAMA Project Director H. Kurma Rao said that labourers were being provided more work under the MGNREGA programme.
Earlier, the team went through a photo exhibition and viewed a PowerPoint presentation on the ground reality.
