The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the man was a 33-year-old from Woolner, a suburb in Darwin in the Northern Territory.

San Francisco Police Department spokeswoman Giselle Talkoff said the man was involved in "a verbal altercation which became physical" outside the Da Vinci Villa hotel in the Russian Hill neighbourhood about 2am Friday local time.
Officer Talkoff said the man was injured during the fight and taken to hospital, where he died.
Local media outlets have reported that the man was a tourist.
Officer Talkoff said that two suspects have been detained.
"This is an open and active investigation," Officer Talkoff said.
