England register a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Bangladesh.
England’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 got off to a brilliant start as the Three Lions beat Bangladesh by eight wickets at The Oval on Thursday. Set a 306-run target, England lost just two wickets and overhauled the target with 16 deliveries to spare. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 133 – his best ODI score – and he was ably assisted by skipper Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 75. It was Alex Hales who put the chase on track with his fluent 95 at top of the order. Earlier, Bangladesh rode on Tamim Iqbal’s hundred and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 75 to post a 300+ total but it was the ordinary bowling in the second half of the game which cost them the match.

*After 47.2 overs, England are 308/2, Joe Root 133*, Eoin Morgan 75*. Mortaza gave Bangladesh the early breakthrough but it was England show since then. Both Hales and Root put on a mammoth stand before the opener fell short of a well-deserved 100 and went back to the hut after scoring a fluent 95. Morgan came in and completed the chase with the right-hander. The skipper scored a fluent 75 while Root hit an unbeaten 133 in the chase
* Innings wrap: Bangladesh post 300/6 against England at The Oval in the tournament opener. After put into bat first, Bangladesh had a steady start before losing Somya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes. Rahim and Tamim Iqbal then combined well to put the innings on track and then accelerate. Tamim (128) hit a brilliant hundred while Rahim (79) scored a fluent fifty
TOSS: England win toss, elect to bowl against Bangladesh. England would now look to keep the Shakib-led unit to a decent total and chase it down later. The hosts are back to full strength and Ben Stokes is back after missing the final ODI against South Africa
