A major resort complex in Manila is on lockdown following reports of unidentified gunman in the vicinity and reports of audible gunshots and explosions.

A CNN reporter on the ground said she could see police, fire trucks and a SWAT team were in the area.

Maria Ressa, Executive Editor of Rappler, a social news network, told CNN hotel guests had been asked to evacuate.

"What we're seeing is smoke coming out of the building," she said.

Resorts World Manila confirmed the incident on its Twitter account.
