Good night!
Thanks for joining me! Wow, that flew. The Blues look like they have the stronger side this year but I woudn't be tipping a dynasty just yet. Jarrod Wallace, Coen Hess, Billy Slater and Johnathan Thurston into the Maroons side for game two. If you enjoyed your visit to #wickedwednesday then why not come every week? On #stupidsaturday right here we live blog all three Saturday NRL games and have a bit of fun as well as getting a tad obsessive. See you this Saturday ... !

Walters: Thurston wouldn't have saved us
QUEENSLAND coach Kevin Walters says he's not sure if talisman Johnathan Thurston will be back from injury for Origin II - but he wouldn't have made a difference tonight.
"I'm not sure about John," said Walters.
"If John had have been out there tonight, the scoreline might have been a bit closer but they were pretty dominant through the middle and John doesn't play there."
Summing up the match, the coach said: "It was firstly, a disappointing night. We got a lesson in Origin football and how it should be played."
Captain Cameron Smith said: "The moments that counted tonight, NSW were better.
"NSW, they didn't give us anything. That's something our team has been good at over a long period.
"When we needed to turn up, we didn't tonight."
Discussing Anthony Milford's debut, former Maroons five-eighth Walters deadpanned: "I've seen worse performances, defensively, from a number six for Queensland."
Discussing a possible chicken wing on Nate Myles, Walters said: "His arm's still attached to his body. I don't know how. That's footy."
Daley In The Dark Over Pearce Concussion Query
NSW coach Laurie Daley says he's unsure if halfback Mitchell Pearce stayed on the field for several minute after getting a head knock during Origin I.
"I wouldn't have a clue," he said after the 28-4 win at Suncorp Stadium. "It's pretty hectic up in the coaching box, I was just trying to find out if he was alright."
Discussing the return game in three weeks, Daley said: "Queensland will have Johnathan Thurston back in the side and I don't know what they'll do about Billy (Slater) but they might have him back.
"What we've seen from Mitch (Pearce) in club land and what he did tonight. He's just tremendous.
"Queensland are at their best when they hit adversity. They'll come back harder."
Captain Boyd Cordner said man of the match Andrew Fifita was "unreal ... it is game one so he's going to have to back it up again.
"He's a great player and he showed it, puting us on the front foot.
"To lead out this great bunch of men, it's a massive honour. I think it shows how much the jersey means to be up by so much and keep turning up for each other at the end."

Fulltime at Suncorp Stadium: NEW SOUTH WALES 28 QUEENSLAND 4
NEW South Wales have gone one-up in the 2017 State Of Origin series with a dominant display in the opening match of the series at Suncorp Stadium.
Former NFL convert Jarryd Hayne returned to representative rugby league with a bang, scoring a crucial second half try.
A try just short of halftime gave the Blues a 12-4 lead and they schooled their opponents after the break.
COMMENT: Johnathan Thurston can't return from injury soon enough for the Maroons and Billy Slater must also be a huge chance of a recall.

70 min: Guerra NO TRY
There might have been a forward pass from Corey Oates to Queensland replacement Aiden Guerra but, no matter, the Rooster lost the ball over the tryline. Nate Myles is down and in such a bad way that rival Boyd Cordner calls for help. Queensland's Darius Boyd is over the line but held up.New South Wales 28-4.

59 min: Hayne try
Blues centre Jarryd Hayne jumps in the crowd once more after putting the Queensland threat to sleep with a try in the south eastern corner. It's his 10th Origin try. James Maloney was the architect there. Quick hands on the left from the Blues. Off to the right with Maloney's conversion attempt. New South Wales 28-6.

Mitchell Pearce and Anthony Milford have collided in backplay. Let's see how seriously they take the concussion rule at this level. Cooper Cronk scoops dead an attacking kick. Jack Bird will now go into the halves and Josh Dugan will come back on. New South Wales 12-4.

Underway in the second half. New South Wales have the ball. Play staying between the quarter lines for now. James Maloney bombs Dane Gagai and Jarryd Hayne gets a finger-tip to the fumble but can't control it. Nice hands from Hayne onto Morris on the eastern side. Aiden Guerra and Jack Bird yet to get a run. Now Josh Dugan's off and Bird is on. Lifting tackle penalty against Queensland's Jacob Lillyman.New South Wales 12-4.

Halftime at Suncorp Stadium: NEW SOUTH WALES 12 QUEENSLAND 4
A TRY seconds from halftime to halfback Mitchell Pearce has given New South Wales an eight point lead at halftime in Origin 1.
The Blues were first to score after only six minutes via five-eighth James Maloney with Queensland winger Corey Oates plucking the ball out of the air to hit back in the 36th.
But a gap spotted by fullback James Tedesco proved big enough for him to combine with his halves for a second NSW touchdown to put the visitors in the driver's seat.
COMMENT: A very impressive half of football. Fatigue looks like playing a role in the second half with Laurie Daley's side in a good position.

39 min: Pearce try, Maloney goal
The Blues run the ball on the final tackle and halfback Mitchell Pearce scores between the posts. James Tedesco calls for the ball inside and surges through a gap 20 metres out, drawing the remaining defence, and then finds Pearce backing up inside. James Maloney converts. New South Wales 12-4.

34 min: Oates try
From the near miss by the Blues, Justin O'Neill and Dane Gagai combine on the right side. O'Neill goes into dummy half, passes to Cameron Smith and then to Cronk who cross-kicks to the eastern side where Corey Oates goes high and takes the ball in his fingertips to score a spectacular try. Captain Smith can't convert. New South Wales 6-4.

Brilliant - absolutely brilliant - play from NSW centre Jarryd Hayne. He dances, bounces out of a tackle twice, and offloads to Brett Morris who is hauled down just short. Then James Tedesco loses the ball over the line. New South Wales 6-0.
NSW scrum feed on their own quarter. Wild pass from Will Chambers almost leads to Blues try. Mitchell Pearce's stab-kick into the Queensland in-goal is snatched out of the air by Dane Gagai. Gagai goes himself down the blindside and is caught on the last. Incredible pace but clean with few scoring opportunities despite expansive attack from both sides. New South Wales 6-0.

New South Wales now back with the ball and running it out of their own quarter. Kick to Oates who avoids the chase of Tyson Frizell. Matt Gillett break off Cronk pass but the Blues hold them out. Blake Ferguson has a should injury. Brett Morris has a knee problem. Jersey grab on Anthony Milford but it's play-on. Tedesco takes another bomb. Dangerous kick from Justin O'Neill cleaned up by James Tedesco. David Klemmer on, Aaron Woods off. New South Wales 6-0.

NSW five-eighth James Maloney scores after Andew Fifita's offload in heavy traffic. Huge 'don't argue from prop Fifita. Mitchell Pearce also involved early. Maloney converts. New South Wales 6-0.
