Because too much weather is never enough for Melburnians, here's everything you need to know.

Good morning, Melbourne. Pinch and a punch, it's the first day of June and winter is officially upon us.

It's about 8 degrees out there, but with the b-r-r-r factor nothing like yesterday, the cold season looks to be taking a softly, softly approach so far.

There's only the faintest chance of rain today, and just a little cloud about. Though the cloaks of fog we had in the hills and thereabouts are likely to get another airing in the early morning.

So, winter isn't coming, it's here. And - spoiler alert - it's nothing to be scared of. Well, not yet anyway.

Here's what the weather is doing right now

Weird weather words of the day: Supercooled water

If you thought quinoa was overhyped, just wait till the hipsters and fitness fanatics hear about supercooled water. It's liquid water at a temperature below the freezing point, before it becomes a solid. OK, so maybe it's not quite as hip as it sounds - it's basically a meteorological slushie. Bottoms up! Photo: Dominic Lorrimer/Fairfax Media

The Slushie comes with Hennessy and cherry Coke, or as a non-alcoholic version.
