Tagging and stamping of hand baggage in six more major airports, including Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, will be a thing of past from June 1.

The other four airports where this facility is extended are Patna, Jaipur, Guwahati and Lucknow.

"We had run a trial at these airports for few weeks. After finding that an enhanced number of new gadgets, CCTVs and security paraphernalia has been put in place, the process of doing away with the tagging and stamping of domestic air passengers' hand baggage will begin from June 1," CISF Director General O P Singh said.

With this, passengers using 13 airports will not need to stamp their hand baggage as a security measure. From April 1, stamping had been done away with in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kochi airports.

Five more -- Varanasi, Pune, Goa, Bhubaneswar and Vishakhapatnam -- would be next in line where the tagging and stamping of passengers' hand baggage will be done away with in the future.
