Modi government generated 813.76 cr person days of work in last 3 years: Narendra Singh Tomar
NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi government generated 813.76 crore person days of work under its flagship schemes in the last three years, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar today said.
He said that labour ministry data only captures the organised sector but the large scale employment opportunities generated through development schemes has not been tapped yet. For instance, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin has 25% labour component. According to government data the scheme generated 99 crore person days in the last three years.
In 2016-17 MGNREGA accounted for 235 crore person days of labour. “The investment in irrigation and agriculture related activities in NREGS also leads to increased employment on account of intensification of agriculture activities,” a press statement by rural development ministry said.
For the year 2017-18 rural development ministry has targeted an expenditure of Rs 1,05,448 crore. Government has already released Rs 23,443 crore which is half of the total budget allocated to NREGS for 2017-18 to the states to ensure steady fund flow and timely payments.
