A total of 86.16 lakh smart ration cards, out of 1.91 crore existing family cards, have been issued in Tamil Nadu, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister R Kamaraj said today.

Being the dream project of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the government was taking steps to complete issuance of smart cards on a war-footing, he said.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting to review the progress of issue of smart cards, among others.
