A 40-year-old was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in Tewda village here, police said today.

Mehrun Ali was returning after attending a religious programme, in his motorcycle, last evening, when the miscreants intercepted his bike and opened fire on him, they said.



"We rushed to the spot as soon as we were informed," said circle officer Ska Pratap.

However, irate locals protested against the police and refused to hand over the victim's body.

"We had to pacify them before we could send the the body for postmortem," said Pratap.

"We are investigating the case. No arrests have yet been made," he said.
