On the third anniversary of the Narendra Modi government, the Congress has demanded a white paper on the country’s economy, also asking the Centre to make public the GDP figures of the last ten years, computed in the current and previous methods.
The Congress’ deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma, who addressed the media said the Centre should also reveal the locations of Indians who had been provided jobs in the three years of the BJP-led government. “Manufacturing of numbers; falsification of facts and polishing or vanishing numbers are not accepted, truth cannot be altered, truth will triumph,” he said.
Sharma added that the overwhelming mandate the BJP received in the 2014 elections was not to change the basic structure of the country’s polity. “Distraction, propaganda, falsification of facts, intolerance, insulting political opponents, insulting all predecessors and questioning the wisdom of intellectuals are the hallmark of this government. Hundreds of crores of money from the treasury are used to build a personality cult around one person,” Sharma said.
He said the poor, unemployed, farmers and minorities were unhappy with the Modi government. “Our security is under grave threat. We have lost more soldiers, more officers of the armed forces in the last three years,” he claimed.
