ETMarkets After Hours: 93 stocks at 52-week low; Videocon tumbles more

The domestic equity market settled in the red for the second straight session on Wednesday on profit booking over geopolitical tensions and ahead of Thursday’s expiry of futures and options contracts.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 63.61 points, or 0.21 per cent, down at 30,301, while the Nifty50 index of NSE settled 25.60 points, or 0.27 per cent, up at 9,360.

Earnings impact: Shares of Lupin dipped 1.71 per cent to Rs 1,227 on BSE on Wednesday after the pharma firm posted a 49.16 per cent drop in March quarter net profit at Rs 380.21 crore on a 1.33 per cent year-on-year growth in total revenue from operations to Rs 4,253.30 crore.

Another day of big fall: Shares of Videocon Industries were locked in the 10 per cent lower circuit for the third consecutive session over fear of loan default. The stock plunged nearly 42 per cent in three days to Rs 58.35 on Wednesday from Rs 100.38 on May 19.

Sectoral show: Among the sectoral indices on BSE, the BSE Capital Goods index dipped the most at 2.62 per cent, followed by Telecom (down 2.32 per cent), Metal (down 2.23 per cent), Healthcare (down 1.94 per cent), Realty (down 1.87 per cent) and Power (down 1.48 per cent) indices.

@fresh 52-week low: As many as 93 stocks hit their fresh 52-week low on NSE in Wednesday’s session. The list included stocks such as Abbott India, Aurobindo Pharma, Divi’s Laboratories, Gammon India, Educomp Solutions, IDBI Bank, Lupin, KPIT Technologies and NDTV.

Spurt in OI: Stock futures of Voltas saw the biggest jump in open interest (OI) at 81 per cent. It was followed by Jubilant Food (up 46.95 per cent), PC Jeweller (up 41.78 per cent), Sintex (up 38.59 per cent) and Bosch (up 37.84 per cent).

Most active securities: Suzlon Energy emerged the most active stock in terms of traded volume on NSE on Wednesday. It was followed by JP Associates, Reliance Communications, Sintex, GMR Infra, South Indian Bank and Tata Motors.
