Private varsities asked to close unauthorised study centres
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government today directed private universities in the state to close unauthorised distance education study centres.
The state in a letter asked vice-chancellors of 16 private universities to immediately close such centres or face strict action, an official spokesman said.
As per the provisions of the University Grants Commission Act, no private university is authorised to open study centres for distance education outside their campus without permission, he said.
He said the copy of the order has also been sent to the deputy commissioners. They have been asked to conduct checks in their respective districts and close unauthorised centres, the spokesman said.
