The Madras High Court bench here today directed the State Fisheries department to ensure that the 48-day ban on fishing in the sea off Tamil Nadu coast, was implemented in letter and spirit.
Justice N Seshasayee gave the direction on a plea by the Mechanised Boat Owners and Fishermen Welfare Association president Asan Mohaideen.
Disposing of the petition, the judge said, The petitioner had prayed that the Director of Fisheries department and its Commissioner implement the ban order in letter and spirit without favouritism to anyone.
Hence, officials concerned should ensure that the Deputy Director and Assistant Director of Fisheries, Tiruchi, complied with the ban order with out any laxity, he added.
