A three-day-old male baby and its mother were injured after the ceiling of maternity ward in the SNR district hospital in Kolar fell on them, on Monday.

Nethra and her baby were sleeping in the maternity ward when the cement plaster of the ceiling fell on them around 6.30 pm. While the baby was injured on its head, Nethra sustained injuries on her leg. There were around 30 newborns and their mothers in the ward when the incident occurred. There was commotion in the hospital as all of them rushed out of the ward after the ceiling gave away. District surgeon Dr Shivakumar and medical staff pacified them.

The baby has been shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospital in Bengaluru. A complaint has been lodged with the Kolar town police.
